If you would like to forward a domain that you have to a different domain or subdomain, the best way to do that would be to use a CNAME record. By setting up such a record, the domain being pointed loses all its records (A, MX, and so on) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain name it's pointed to. In this way, if you are using a web design service by some provider that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain name and not only will it be redirected to the website you have set up, but it'll also be displayed in the browser address bar at all times. Alternative possible uses of a CNAME record are to redirect all the targeted traffic from different subdomains to their main domain name, or to use the webmail service of your hosting provider by using webmail.your-doman.com, for instance. The latter will work only by creating a CNAME record for a subdomain since this kind of a record created for the main domain renders it impossible to use email addresses.

CNAME Records in Hosting

If you have a hosting plan through our company and you would like to create a CNAME record, it'll take you a few mouse clicks to make it happen. You can access the DNS records for all domain names and subdomains hosted in your account through the Hepsia Control Panel offered with every single plan and adding a new record is as simple as clicking on a button, picking out the type, that will be CNAME in this case, typing the actual record value and saving the change. If you've never added this kind of record before, you will find a Help section with a detailed video tutorial you can watch, or you can simply contact us and we will aid you with this task. If you have built an Internet site using another company, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you would like to designate a subdomain for use with the services of a different provider, like Google Apps, all it takes is creating a CNAME record with a couple of clicks inside your CP.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

The Hepsia hosting CP, which comes with each of our semi-dedicated server accounts, will allow you to create a CNAME record easily. If you want to create a private URL for your emails, to redirect a domain name to a subdomain inside the account or to forward a domain address to another provider and use some third-party service which they provide, it won't take you more than three clicks to set up such a record. All DNS records for the domain names and subdomains hosted inside the semi-dedicated account are going to be listed in a separate section in the CP, so when you're there, all that you will have to do will be to pick the type of the record that you want to create and the hostname for which you are creating it, and then type in the actual record text. For your convenience, you can watch a short video within the CP about how to create a CNAME record or you can follow the instructions in the help article, which is available in the DNS records section.
